IRCCS Foundation National Cancer Institute, Italy

Short Bio
  • Dr. Perego is a Senior Staff Scientist at Molecular Pharmacology Unit of the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale Tumori, Milan, Italy. She obtained a degree in biology with full marks and honours at the University of Milan, a diploma of Specialization in Applied Genetics at the same university, and a PhD in Translational Biomedicine at the University of Verona. From 1989 to 1992, she was a research fellow in the Laboratory of Experimental Oncology B at the Istituto Nazionale Tumori of Milan and from 1992 to 1999 she was an Assistant Researcher in the same laboratory. From 1992 to 1996 she was a Visiting Scientist in the Laboratory of Molecular Pharmacology (directed by Prof S.B. Howell) at the UCSD Cancer Center, San Diego, CA. From 1999 she is a Staff Scientist at the the Istituto Nazionale Tumori, Milan. Dr. Perego serves as a reviewer for several international journals. Dr. Perego has experience in preclinical development of novel antitumor agents and in translational studies. The fields of interest of Dr. Perego are the molecular/biochemical pharmacology of antitumor agents such as platinum compounds, topoisomerase inhibitors and targeted agents (e.g., PARP inhibitors, SMAC mimetics, drug conjugates) as well as the mechanisms of drug resistance with particular reference to the role of deubiquitinases and their targeting as a strategy to overcome drug resistance.
