Maria Irene Bellini

Dr Bellini is Senior Lecturer and Consultant Surgeon at Sapienza University of Rome. She completed her training as a general and transplant surgeon in 2014 and a research doctorate in 2015. She moved to the UK in 2013, to complete her PhD in Oxford (UK) and undertake further subspecialty training. During this time, she developed an interest in organ perfusion devices and she held the responsibility for the machine perfusion clinical program at Imperial College London (UK), before becoming a Consultant Transplant Surgeon in 2019-20 at Belfast City Hospital. Afterwards, she moved back to Rome, and she now sits on the General Surgery Expert Panel under the Ministry of Health. She is a Fellow of the European Board of Surgery (FEBS) and an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
