Following the publication of this article, we realized that the title appeared incorrectly: This appeared as “Decreased cathepsin K levels in human atherosclerotic plaques are associated with plaque instability” instability”, and the corrected title is now featured above.
Figs. 2 and 3 in the paper do correctly show that unstable plaques have higher cathepsin K mRNA/protein levels compared with stable plaques. Similarly, the text in the abstract, on lines 19–20 (“In unstable plaques, the expression of Cat K protein and mRNA was upregulated…”) was also worded correctly.
Note that the error associated with the wording of the title did not have any bearing on the results reported in the paper, or the conclusions therein. We regret any inconvenience that this mistake has caused.
