Abstract

In this investigation the presence of oncogene-related sequences in amphibian genomes was examined by means of Southern hybridization. Our studies show presence of these sequences in urodele and anura amphibia. In addition, it seems that copies of some cross-hybridized sequences were increased in species with more DNA per haploid nucleus. This provides evidence that the higher complexity of genomes in some amphibians does correlate with duplication of structural genes.
