Abstract

We have tested the feasibility, tolerability, and efficacy of a multimodality treatment approach for patients with locally advanced cancer of the upper gastrointestinal tract including preoperative chemotherapy with the EAP-protocol as induction and a consecutive high-dose chemotherapy with MCVB and autologous stem cell rescue for responding patients. This first pilot trial in 16 patients shows that the approach is feasible with tolerable toxicity and can lead to prolonged disease-free survival in responding patients.
