Bacterial infections remain a major challenge for modern medicine, particularly in hospital settings, intensive care units, immunocompromised patients and individuals exposed to invasive procedures or prolonged antimicrobial therapy. The growing burden of antimicrobial resistance has made the management of bacterial infections increasingly complex, requiring an integrated approach that combines rapid diagnosis, microbiological characterization, antimicrobial stewardship and individualized therapeutic strategies. This Special Issue aims to collect high-quality original research articles, reviews and case-based contributions addressing current advances in the diagnosis, treatment and clinical management of bacterial infections. Particular attention will be given to infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative and Gram-positive pathogens, including Acinetobacter baumannii, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant enterococci and other clinically relevant pathogens. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, bloodstream infections, pneumonia, complicated urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, device-related infections and infections in critically ill or fragile patients. The Special Issue will also welcome studies on rapid diagnostic tools, molecular resistance detection, antimicrobial stewardship interventions, pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic optimization, combination therapy, novel antimicrobials, long-acting agents, real-world clinical outcomes and risk stratification models for complicated infections. By bringing together clinical, microbiological and translational perspectives, this Special Issue seeks to provide an updated overview of the evolving landscape of bacterial infections and to support evidence-based strategies that improve patient outcomes while reducing inappropriate antimicrobial use.
