Beside the availability of novel anticancer drugs and therapeutic approaches, cancer is still one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The main cause of the high lethality rate in cancer patients is due to the late diagnosis and therapeutic resistance occurrence that significantly impair the outcome in these patients. Thus, the development of new therapeutic targets and therapies, associated to the development and use of early biomarkers, may significantly improve the outcome of cancer patients. In this context, investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer progression and therapy resistance occurrence is essential for the development of new therapies or the improving of the efficiency of the existing ones.
